œSt. Agnes of Rome

St. Agnes of Rome lived during the third century in Rome. She is one of the martyrs listed in the Canon of the Mass. Agnes was just a young girl when she decided to dedicate her life to Christ, and wanted to remain unmarried. One suitor refused to respect her wishes, and feeling slighted, reported her to the authorities for being a Christian. Agnes faced her abusers and persecutors with courage, and refused to renounce her faith.

St. Agnes of Rome is a wonderful saint to teach children about the importance of staying true to God and to oneself. Introduce the story of St. Agnes of Rome using the educational insert in the box. Children will learn about an ancient Catholic tradition celebrated on the feast of St. Agnes. St. Agnes is also a great to speak with children about those that try to force them to compromise their beliefs. Great for opening discussions about respecting women, the sin of revenge, and the importance of staying true to yourself and God.
